Singapore will have a fourth university by next year. Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) will be privately funded and privately run. It will continue to offer degree programmes in partnership with overseas institutions.
The new university shall have 2 arms: One will be called SIM University, which will be granted university status by MOE and award its own degrees. The other arm will continue to partner with overseas varsities to run degree programmes. Recently, SIM has announced its partnership with The University of Manchester (UM) to launch the Bachelor of Science (Honours) Management programme. The programme will be available to students who have business related diploma, and wish to upgrade to honours degree level.
Modelling on Open University programmes, SIM will continue to cater to working adults intending to upgrade to degree qualifications. The new university will offer a variety of courses, including arts and social sciences, business, computer science, biomedical engineering and tourism management.
SIM have 10 years experience running British Open University degree programmes. In the first few years of its set up, students will be given the choice to receive a British Open University degree or the SIM University degree. However, the degree will carry the SIM name once the university developed its own courses.
