Academic / Musical achievements: - Straight As (except for one B) in all A-level subjects, including GP, Project Work and Chinese - Dean's list in GP in JC1 and 2 - Dean's list in Semester 1 of Year 1 in NUS Relevant Experience / Teaching Style: I've been a private tutor since 2009 and I have taught eight students, two of whom were referrals. I have also done three separate relief teaching stints in the past three years- one teaching English Language and Philosophy at RGS, and the other two teaching JC1 and JC2 General Paper. As such, I'm quite familiar with the curriculum of these subjects and the requirements of examiners. For students are who motivated and eager learners, and are already rather proficient in their subjects, I would tailor a more advanced and challenging programme that exposes them to areas beyond their set syllabus so as to stretch them to fulfill their fullest potential, and give them that edge over their peers. If students are achieving average grades, I would teach them how to improve their work from the mediocre to the outstanding, empowering them with the necessary attitudes and skills they need to excel in their subjects. As for students who are generally weaker academically, I enjoy the challenge of helping them acquire some level of interest in the subject (as most who don't do well often dislike that particular subject) and changing their negative mindsets about the subject or their own abilities. I believe that interest is sometimes more important than aptitude as it will spur them to persevere and improve in the subject. My approach in this case will be to ground them in the basics of the academic discipline and provide a comprehensive programme that aims to help them understand and be able to apply the associated concepts, while acquiring the relevant skills needed to excel in that subject. In general, my teaching approach is to strike a good balance between content/knowledge, and skills. Personality wise, I am patient, friendly and amiable, and from experience, am able to build a good rapport with my students pretty quickly. As much as I can, I aim to make my lessons enjoyable, engaging and fun with the use of various teaching aids and illustrations. In my free time, I mentor a group of teenagers (13-18 year olds) in a programme outside of school and so I'm familiar with their idiosyncrasies and am able to connect with them on not just a tutor-tutee level but as a friend as well. I am firm when needed but also easy-going when my tutees have proven that they take their own work seriously. As long as my students are committed to doing their best and improving in their subjects, their subsequent results will speak for itself. Available Schedule:
