Academic / Musical achievements: 3-time SMU Top Economics Student and Dean's Lister (AYs 2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10) Holder of SMU Scholarship (AYs 2007/08-2010/11) Recipient of Ministry of Trade and Industry (Economist Service) Prize (AY 2008/09) 2-year Humanities Scholarship Programme in Hwa Chong Junior College (2003-2004) 7-year Gifted Education Programme in Tao Nan School & Raffles Institution (1996-2002) Relevant Experience / Teaching Style: Tutoring for the past 8 years Tutored 2 TPJC students in 'A' Level Economics - improvement of 3 letter grades each after 1 year of tutoring Tutored 2 RJC students in 'A' Level Economics - improvement of 4 letter grades each after 1 year of tutoring Special Training / Skills: I specialize in helping students from top JCs who are falling behind the class in Economics and feel the pressure to catch up with their peers. Having been taught 'A' Level Economics in an atypical way, I train my students to "see the big picture" and write from that picture rather than memorizing individual concepts and "studying to the test". My students end up gaining a holistic view of what Economics is, and seeing how it is relevant to their lives and shapes the world around them. All my students thus far have only had me as their tutor in their second year of JC, so I have experience in "rescuing" them as their finals approach. However, I would much rather prefer first-year students who find themselves unable to cope with Economics already - having more time to work with them, I can be more confident about delivering results. |
