I believe that by teaching what I am best at, it will be most beneficial to my students. Though I concentrate on Mathematics, I am able to help my students out in other subjects such as Physics too. In fact, I have experience in teaching primary school Maths and Science as well as lower secondary school Maths and Science, upper secondary E Maths, A Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Science (Physics/Chemistry). I have also taught University first year Maths to NUS student. My style of teaching varies from student to student as each individual is unique and has different needs. I will usually find out from my students what difficulties are they facing and then find the most appropriate way to teach them. I also do not believe in rote learning. I feel that it is better to do 10 questions and understand them well than practicing 100 questions without grasping the underlying concepts. During tuition, I will assign my students practice questions with varying levels of difficulty depending on their abilities. For those who are struggling with the basic foundations, I will give them more questions that test them on the basics and guide them through the problem solving process. When a student encountered difficulties with a particular concept, I will try to explain the concept in different ways and make sure they understand it by twisting the practice questions and asking them from other perspectives. Often, these students have misconceptions which they do not realize until I point them out. For those who already know the basics and are seeking to achieve more, I will let them attempt more challenging questions that can stimulate their thinking. In addition, I regularly ask for feedback from my students on my teaching so that I can improve the way I conduct my tuition lessons and to cater better to their needs. I am patient with my students and I am willing to explain the concepts till they understand it. The only thing I ask for from my students is to the willingness to learn. If they do not have the commitment to work hard to brush up on their results, their grades will not show much improvements as it takes two hands to clap. I am also dedicated to my job. If the students require extra lessons during exam periods, I will try to my best to accommodate them.
